Protecting Your Foundation
Extended dry periods can lead to shifting and cracking of your home's foundation. Clay soils can dry unevenly so that some areas shrink more than others. Most noticeable is shifting inside the home. Doors will no longer close correctly and walls will show cracks. After several weeks of no measurable precipitation, now is an important time to inspect the soil around your foundation. Look for soil that has pulled away from the foundation. AgriLife Extension offers advice on foundation care, including tips on how to best water the ground around your foundation, if needed.
Did You Know...
That drip irrigation technology has advanced tremendously? It's now used in almost ALL new residential construction. It's up to 50% more efficient than traditional above-ground irrigation products, and can easily be monitored with indicator flags that pop-up to let you know the system is up and running. Renovating your system to include drip irrigation typically pays for itself within the first two years. After that, it's all about saving water and keeping money in your pocket!
Our New Weekly Watering Advice
This week's recommendation is 0.75 inches. Below is a suggested schedule based on a typical sprinkler system. Your system's precipitation rate can make a difference in how long you need to run your system to apply the right amount.
