The Streets Department Water Story

Imagine A Day Without Water is almost here! In honor of this campaign, staff from multiple departments have shared how water is critical to our jobs here. This week, we want to highlight what water means to the Streets and Drainage Department. After you read their story, tell us your own below! How do you value water?

Zones of Irrigation

Many property owners have their seasonal beds on the same zone of irrigation with established trees, shrubs, and perennials. This causes you to over-water the established plants on your property in order to provide seasonal plants with adequate water.
Photo Contest

Send in your pictures related to water and water conservation to the Bob Jones Nature Center. Photos can be submitted from now until November 11th, and winning photos will be displayed at the Nature Center and the library.
Transitioning Into Fall

Fall is the best time to clean up your yard, prepare for the next growing season, and plant any trees or shrubs you've had your eye on. Use this handy checklist when doing your landscape maintenance over the next few months, and don't forget to aerate your lawn and mulch your new plants!
Weekly Watering Advice
This week's recommendation is for you to not water your lawn due to the rain we received this past weekend. Remember that if you do turn on your sprinkler to water only on your designated days, between 6:00pm and 10:00am.  For more information on this, visit Water Is Awesome.
